Holidays 2012 Over the River and Through the Woods

Cozy-up in a rustic North Georgia Mountain cabin and create some magical holiday memories. Whether Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years, create some extraordinary holiday traditions by heading up to The Villas at Coosawattee. Toast your tootsies in front of the fire, cut down your own Christmas tree, kick back in a relaxing hot tub, sip hot chocolate on a scenic cabin deck, or take a wintry walk through the woods. Make The Villas at Coosawattee your home away from home this holiday season.

The Villas at the Coosawattee River Resort offers cabins and villas starting as low as $85 per night tucked away in the mountains in all of the most scenic locations of the resort. The accommodations feature full kitchens which are perfect for any kind of holiday feast, and the area offers many eateries, activities, and must see locations.

The Villas’ Recreation Center, six river parks, and Coosawattee Library give guests plenty to enjoy and explore. The Recreation Center features an indoor heated pool, fitness facility, miniature golf, tennis courts, and more. The six river parks have varying features such as fishing, play-grounds, and fire rings perfect for s’mores! Don’t forget your graham crackers, chocolate bars, and marshmallows. If you need a book to read while relaxing, the Coosawattee Library may have just what you are looking for.

Take a day to cut your own Christmas tree at one of the many Christmas tree farms in the North Georgia Mountains such as Lowery’s Tree Farm, Whisenant Mountain Farm, and Jones Tree Farm. Or take a wintry walk around The Villas at Coosawattee's grounds and collect decorations for your tree and cabin. Greenery, pinecones, and other treasures can be transformed into a truly delightful holiday setting. The event offers a delightful experience for one and all, and starts the holiday season off with a time to remember!

Another change in tradition is going beyond the bird. Spending the holidays away from home doesn’t mean that you are obligated to eat at a hotel buffet. Use the accommodation’s full kitchen to take a break from traditional menus. Spice up Thanksgiving with pot roast, Cornish hen or ham instead of turkey. The Villas features all of the necessary dishes and kitchen equipment, but you may want to bring a roasting pan for the turkey and baking sheets for that special holiday baked treats.

Maybe forgoing all the fuss of holiday cooking is more appealing. Well, several fantastic options are available. Have gourmet dining in your resort lodging by contacting Cabin Cuisine. Let Cabin Cuisine prepare an exquisite meal—which allows everyone to be free of cooking and cleaning and to enjoy the memorable time in the mountains.  Another option is to pick-up your feast from one of the many restaurants in the Ellijay and East Ellijay areas, such as Charlie’s Italian Restaurant, Davis House Restaurant, Cantaberry Restaurant, or Corner Stone CafĂ©. Give the place a call well ahead of time to establish operating hours and menu items. And last, bring your feast with you and store in your accommodations refrigerator until the big day. What a treat just to reheat!

Whatever your choice for the holiday feast, one thing is for sure—a holiday in the mountains can’t be beat. The air smells fresher, the sky looks bluer, the trees are more beautiful, and the birds sing a little sweeter. Make your holidays not only fun and magical ... make them also relaxing. Have family and friends meet at The Villas at Coosawattee and let those good times roll. A good old fashion holiday is right there, over the river and through the woods!

The Villas at Coosawattee River Resort is the premier destination for resort lodging in the Blue Ridge Mountains, featuring cabins, villas, and Jacuzzi villas. Fall is upon us and what better way to enjoy the season than to experience some of the mountain festivities in North Georgia. Inexpensive yet filled with fun,  the Blue Ridge Mountains offer not only vibrant colors, crisp air, and peaceful scenery but also pumpkin patches, corn mazes, apple farms, fall festivals, hay rides, and more!  Only a little over an hour from Atlanta, Ellijay and Blue Ridge feature so many festive options, you can make a long weekend or a full vacation out of the trip!

MOUNTAIN CABINS: The perfect place to stay during your fall fun is at The Villas at Coosawattee River Resort, which offers very affordable accommodations within close proximity of mountain attractions. The Villas offers one, two, and three bedroom cabins and villas, some of which feature hot tubs, lofts, river views, and mountain scenes. The Villas is located inside the Coosawattee River Resort off of GA Highway 382 and features 300+ miles of rambling roads to enjoy all the kaleidoscope patterns of fall foliage.

THE GENERAL STORE CRAFTS: Now off to the local flavor! Just right outside of the Eagle Mountain Gate of the resort is The General  Store that features a craft market every Saturday from 8am to 2pm. Step back in time to slower days of the old general mountain store where friends gather for special activities, every day needs, good food, good times, and arts and crafts. Enjoy shopping amidst the mountains and grab a bite to eat at The General Store while you are at it.

HUCKLEBERRY HOLLER: From cow train rides, jumping pillow, corn maze, pedal carts, giant inflatable slide, haunted corn maze, pig races, hay rides, bounce house, haunted house, pony rides, and petting zoo, Huckleberry Holler has filled with fantastic fall fun! The location is very close to the main road and right on your way to the Ellijay apple orchards and the Georgia Apple Festival! Hours are Monday to Friday 11 to 6pm, Sat. 11 to 9pm and Sun. 11 to 6pm.

HILLCREST APPLE PICKIN’ JUBILEE: The top apple farm that makes our list is Hillcrest Orchards. Hillcrest Orchards is located along ‘apple farm alley’ and offers pick-your-fun. During the annual "Apple Pickin' Jubilee", visitors can pick their own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig races, visit the petting farm, take a wagon ride through the orchard, visit the Moonshine Museum and watch live bands & cloggers on the Hillcrest Stage. A giant slide and jumping pillow add extra fun for the kids! And before leaving, make sure to gather a bag of crisp apples to take with you! Hillcrest Orchards is located off of Highway 52 E.

BURT’S PUMPKIN PATCH: Then, just minutes down the road from the Hillcrest Orchards is the best pumpkin patch around: Burt’s Farm. One of the most impressive features of Burt’s Farm is the vast array of pumpkin types, winter squash, gourds and fall decorations. Indian corn, cornstalks and hay bales are also in never-ending supply. Don't forget to check the "barn" store for Burt’s fresh baked pumpkin pie and pumpkin roll, candied popcorn and a whole assortment of other goodies. And take a hayride through the mountains to soak in all of the autumn flavor. From 75 N, Burt’s is located 1/2 mile on your right from the highway 183/52 intersection on highway 52.

Come and be part of the lively atmosphere of spectacular North Georgia! You’ll gather as many happy memories as apples. Enjoy the colorful pumpkin patches, winding hayrides, and adventurous corn mazes. Don't forget all the extras that come along with the trip, such as The Villas’ 300 miles rambling roads with kaleidoscope patterns of fallen leaves, the Apple Pickin’ Jubilee at Hillcrest, and the fresh baked goods at Burt’s. So, why does Georgia celebrate apples anyway? In the early 1900′s cotton was a large part of Georgia’s economy, but by the 1920’s the boll weevil beetle arrived and practically ruined the cotton industry. Apple orchards saved the day for Georgia, and Gilmer County, by bolstering the economy. In the early 1970’s, Georgia started celebrating the apple for saving the local economy during the hard times created by the loss of the cotton crops.

Ellijay apples are "absolutely the best". When you pick Ellijay for apples you get the juiciest, crunchiest, and yummiest apples of them all. Nestled in the mighty Appalachian Mountains, Ellijay is the center of Georgia's apple country. From late August to December, roadside stands overflow with the most scrumptious mountain apples around. And when purchasing directly from the growers, the apples are better tasting, fresher, less expensive.

Come on out to Ellijay, Georgia this October and stay at The Villas at Coosawattee River Resort. Enjoy the resort with all its amenities as well as its close proximity to the Apple Festival.
