Flowers for Mother on Mothers Day- North Georgia Mountains

Don’t just bring your mother flowers for Mother’s Day- bring her TO the flowers! Give your mother the gift of the  North Georgia Mountains where the hills are alive with spring blossoms. Your mother will have a holiday to remember for always when she is immersed in the colorful kaleidoscope of colors and vibrant beauty of the North Georgia Mountains. Stop along the way at The Cartecay Vineyards for a bit of wine tasting and a view of the gorgeous vineyards, and then spend the night in a charming cabin by the river with The Villas at Coosawattee. Your mother will have so much to brag about when she gets home!

Tourists that visit the North Georgia Mountains in spring see the largest number and the most beautiful blooming trees. One of the first spring trees to flower is the silver bell tree. The silver bell is a small tree with white bell-shaped flowers  and is sprouting throughout the southern Appalachian region.  Another flower that is apparent in the springtime is the yellow or tulip poplar and is one of the tallest hardwoods in this range.  An additional beauty is the  showy white or pink flowered dogwood tree which bloom throughout May. Dogwood is considered by many gardeners to be one of the most beautiful trees with sweeping branches that rise slightly at the ends. Be on the lookout for black locust with sweet-smelling white flowers as well. Finally,  hawthorns are a sight to behold with clusters of small white flowers.

While on your Mother’s Day excursion, stop by the Cartecay Vineyards for some wine tasting. The Southern Appalachians are ideal for growing wine grapes with the elevation, the soil and the climate combining to produce wine grapes of the highest quality and subsequently, fine wines. The Tasting Barn features a tasting bar, a sitting area around a wood fire stove, a covered porch, and a deck. The Chimney is the central feature of the Chimney Patio which is always open for use and a wonderful place to sit, relax and take in the ambiance of the vineyard. The Chimney Patio has a tasting bar and scheduled live music. Your mother will love the breathtaking views and immersing her senses in the varietals:  Vidal Blanc, Merlot,  Traminette, Norton (Cynthiana), Catawba, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is open Thursday through Monday from 11am – 6pm and Sunday from 12:30pm to 5:30pm.

To complete your Mother’s Day to remember, The Villas at Cooswattee offer cozy accommodations for your mother which are cost effective for you. The Villas offer quaint cabins, hot tub villas, and gorgeous A-frames by the river to suit your needs. The amenities at the resort are wide and varied, ranging from indoor and outdoor swimming pools, camp sites, river parks, exercise & weight room, game rooms, miniature golf, horseshoe pits, tennis courts, and basketball courts. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, perfect for long drives or quick hops over to the many resort parks. And most importantly, The Villas provides the perfect proximity to the two main destinations for your trip- flowers and wine vineyard! Directions: Off of 515 turn onto Old State Route 5. Take a right towards Historic Downtown Ellijay for approximately 4 miles. Take a left onto GA Hwy 382 / Green’s Country Store. Up the hill (.6 miles) take a right into the main entrance of The Coosawattee River Resort

This Mother’s Day create a holiday to remember. With a little drive to the mountains, your mother can indulge her senses in all of the wonder and beauty the North Georgia Mountains has to offer. Fields of flowers, vineyards with varietals, and cozy cabins will wrap-up to be a gift you can be excited about and an experience your mother will talk about for years to come.
